I’m the very sad deer behind Sad Deer Studio. I started Sad Deer in 2018 after experiencing several years of artistic burnout. Completing my BFA at Temple University’s Tyler School of Art was exhilarating, but rigorous! While fine art will always be near and dear to my heart, I had a hard time finding the love and inspiration for it in my days after graduating. When I finally started to feel the old pangs of creating calling my heart again, I thought for a long time on how I wanted to reenter my artistic journey. I went back to my roots; illustration, which I was drawn to creating long before fine art. I dusted off my old Wacom tablet, and began exploring the realm of digital art. It’s been a wonderful journey of learning, growing, and most importantly, happiness.

I’m a Delaware based artist and illustrator specializing in portraiture and character design. My style favors crisp line work, intricate details, natural and animal elements, along with fantasy and whimsy. I’m a big ol’ nerd, so some of my favorite creations to make are based around the nerdy culture that I consume, or the Dungeons and Dragons game I play with my friends.

Currently I am available for professional illustration as well as personal commissions. I have experience working with businesses who are looking for personalized, artistic logos, branding, and promotional material. What is it with all this sad deer business?

In 2017, I was perusing the Nashville Flea Market, when I came across a taxidermy deer head. She was no ordinary deer head though! Her fur was patchy, her ears in tatters, and overall just had this dopey, adorable look to her. The for sale tag listed her as one 'very sad deer'.

Buying a taxidermy deer head was the last thing I was expecting to purchase that day, but this sweet girl needed a new home and she called to my heart. I hung her above my desk in my studio and I dubbed her Louise, my studio mascot.
